Door Installation Cost (2026): Interior + Exterior Per-Door Pricing
Doors are priced per door installed. The price varies wildly depending on type, material, and whether the opening is new or existing. A whole-house door package on a remodel can range from $2,500 to $15,000 depending on choices.

Markup and Margin
Standard markup on door installations: 25-40%. Bigger jobs (whole-house door packages) often run 30-40% because admin and material handling scale.

Common Mistakes That Kill Margin
1. Forgetting hardware. Pre-hung doors come with hinges but not knobs. A 12-door interior package needs 12 knobs at $30-80 each = $360-960 in hardware easily missed.
2. Trim package miscounted. Each new door needs interior casing on both sides. A 12-door package = 24 sides of casing. Materials and labor for trim often exceed the door cost itself.
3. Underbidding pocket doors. Pocket doors require demoing drywall, installing the frame kit, hanging the door, and patching the wall. Triple the time of a standard pre-hung. Quote accordingly.
4. Free upgrades to solid core. "Can we make it a solid core door?" Sounds like a $50 swap. Actual cost: $100-200 more in material plus 2-person handling. Issue a change order.
5. Missing the threshold transition. New flooring + new door = transition strip needed. Easy to skip in the bid, awkward to add later.
